Airport Arrival
KLIA / KLIA2 Prayer Rooms
Surau locations: Main Terminal (Level 2, near Gate C11; Level 3, near the food court), KLIA2 (Level 2M, Gateway@KLIA2; Level 3, near departure gates). All have wudhu facilities, prayer mats, and Qibla direction markers.
Halal Food at the Airport
KLIA: The Food Court (Level 2) has multiple halal stalls including nasi lemak, roti canai, and international chains. KLIA2: Food Garden (Level 2M) and numerous halal-certified outlets in the departure lounge.
SIM Cards & Data
Celcom, Maxis, and Digi booths are open 24/7 at arrivals. All offer tourist SIMs with 30-day validity. RM30-50 for 30GB+. Useful for accessing prayer time apps and maps.
Money Exchange
Best rates are at CIMB and Maybank counters in the arrivals hall. Avoid small exchange booths. ATMs accept all major cards. Tip: Withdraw larger amounts to minimize fees.
E-Hailing (Grab)
Download Grab before arrival. Designated pickup zones: KLIA (Door 4, Level 1), KLIA2 (Level 1, Door 5). Fares to KL city center: RM65-75 (1 hour). Grab drivers are usually Muslim — feel free to greet with 'Assalamualaikum'.
Getting Around
KTM & Monorail Prayer Stops
Major stations with nearby suraus: KL Sentral (Masjid Negara, 10 min walk), Masjid Jamek station (Masjid Jamek, 2 min walk), Bandaraya station (Masjid India, 5 min walk). Plan your route around prayer times.
Highway R&R with Surau
North-South Expressway: Sungai Buloh R&R (excellent surau), Rawang R&R, Tapah R&R. East Coast: Karak Highway R&R. All have clean wudhu facilities, prayer mats, and Qibla markers. Most have halal food courts.
Car Rental with Prayer Space
Major rentals (Hertz, Avis, Europcar) at KLIA. Rent a larger vehicle for family comfort. Many highway rest areas have dedicated prayer rooms — perfect for road trips to Penang or Melaka.

Visa & Entry Requirements
Citizens of 160+ countries get 90-day visa-free entry. Check current status at immigration.gov.my. Passport must be valid for 6+ months. No vaccination requirements for most travelers.

First 24 Hours in KL
Check-in & Prayer
Most hotels offer early check-in (request in advance). Immediately locate the Qibla direction and nearest surau. Ask concierge for JAKIM-certified restaurants nearby. Many hotels provide a prayer timetable at reception.

Waktu Solat (prayer times), Qibla Finder (by Google), Grab (transport), Google Maps (save offline maps for mosque locations), Kiple (cashless payments at suraus and halal vendors).
First Meal Recommendation
Start with Village Park Nasi Lemak (Damansara Uptown) or Nasi Kandar Pelita (multiple locations). Both are JAKIM-certified, open late, and offer a true taste of Malaysian Muslim cuisine. Expect RM15-25 per person.
Friday Prayer in KL
Masjid Negara (national mosque) — arrive by 12:30 PM for Jumu'ah at 1:30 PM. Masjid Jamek — historic, central, beautiful architecture. Masjid Al-Bukhary (Jalan Hang Tuah) — excellent facilities, English sermons available.
